The family is the most important unit in any Arab culture, as derived from the Islamic faith. It extends to include not only blood relations but also neighbors, friends and work colleagues, and provides a model of comprehensive care and support which benefits the whole society. In a rapidly changing world, however, the family is undergoing threatening changes to its existence.
His Highness the Emir has been concerned with sustaining the family, by providing economic, social and cultural support. Hence, the wellbeing of the family unit is at the core of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah's initiatives. As a wife and mother, she is closely involved with family issues and values in Qatar.
As President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Her Highness helps to establish legislation and organizations to care for families and encourage the development of women and children. Through Qatar Foundation, Her Highness created projects to provide economic and social assistance to families. And on an international level, Her Highness promotes the development of a strategy to sustain Arab families.
